The Sirimon Route can be combined with a decent of the Chogoria Route for best effect. Combining the Chogoria with the Sirimon Route is, in our opinion, the best way to experience Mount Kenya. Whilst a little more expensive than going up and down the same route, it's certainly worthwhile as you experience 2 very different sides of the mountain. We tend to find that you'll look forward to the downward journey far more than if you were covering the same ground twice - you have the same feeling of discovery as on the way up. 7 days 6 nights is recommended for Sirimon-Chogoria.
Day 1: Nairobi to Old Moses Camp (3440 m, 3 to 4 hours and 700 m).
Transfer about 3 hours by private transport to the entrance of Mount Kenya National Park at Sirimon Gate and trek to Old Moses Camp,
Day 3: Old Moses Camp to Shipton Camp (4236 m, 7 hours and 950 m).
Walk up to the Ontulili river valley and the spectacular Mackinders valley, till Shipton camp for dinner and overnight,
Day 4: Shipton Camp – Mackinder’s Camp (4300 m).
For the better acclimatization, will make a turn to Mount Kenya massif in two days, crossing Husberg pass at 4591m, we’ll walk near lake Nanyuki and Lake Two Trans, before descending to Mackinder’s camp at 4300 meters, at the south west side of the massif.
Day 5: Mackinder’s Camp to Lenana Peak (4985 m) then Shipton Camp (4236 m).
Walk up to the Austrian hut at 4800 m.
From here we will make the final ascent to Lenana Peak at 4985 m. This is the main summit we’ll reach during this trek to Mount Kenya; afterwards we’ll descend to Shipton’s Camp.
Day 6: Shipton Camp to Meru Mt Kenya Bandas Lodge 7 to 8 hours.
After breakfast we’ll walk up to Simba pass by the Chogoria route, and down to Tarns and the spectacular Gorges valley, till Bandas Lodge where you can enjoy a shower and a beer!
